Laimir Fano is a Cuban filmmaker. A graduate of Cuba’s Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) and Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión (EICTV), he is currently completing an MFA in film at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Fano’s short films Model Town and Ode to the Pineapple have earned prizes in Colombia, Argentina, China, the US, and Cuba. After winning a jury prize at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival, Laimir defected to the United States. Waiting for Berta is his first film as an American.
