Borscht High School Program

Borscht High is a weeklong intensive filmmaking boot camp for high school students.

Over the course of the week this summer, students will collaborate with award-winning filmmakers to conceive, create, and edit a short film.

Students will spend very little time in a traditional classroom, instead they will participate in hands-on, experience based learning, critical thinking, and problem solving on a micro budget film.

These skills will directly translate to films of any budget, but when the week is over students will have all the knowledge necessary to make an awesome short on their own.

Other topics covered include:

  • creating permits
  • lock picking
  • getting real adults to be in your films
  • getting noticed online
  • executing pick and rolls
  • how to make your student film not look like a student film
  • basic close up magic
  • marketing without seeming like a shameless self-promoter
  • leveraging your youth to get production value

The completed films will be shown at a special screening as part of the Borscht Film Festival in December.

Cost is TBD per student and includes breakfast, lunch, snacks, and all equipment rentals. Scholarships are available based on need.
